Recognize Breast Cancer Symptoms With SADARI

Recognize Breast Cancer Symptoms With SADARI SADARI (Check Your Own Breast) is a method to detect any abnormalities in the breast, such as lumps or other signs that may indicate potential breast cancer.

Early detection is important for faster and more effective treatment.

The SADARI method is recommended to be done every month by women aged 20 years and above.

For women who are still menstruating, the examination is carried out on the 7th to 10th day after the first day of menstruation.

As for women who have menopause, the examination can be done on the same date every month. Early detection of breast cancer like this can be very beneficial to find abnormalities early, before they develop further.

When performing SADARI (Breast Self Examination), some signs to look out for as an indication of a problem or abnormality in the breast include:

  1. Palpable lumps in the breast area or around the armpits
  2. Thickening of the skin on the breast
  3. Unnatural changes in the size and shape of the breast
  4. Puckering of the skin or the appearance of skin resembling orange peel
  5. Discharge from the nipple, especially if it is abnormal or contains blood
  6. Breast pain that is not related to the menstrual cycle
  7. Swelling of the upper arm or around the breast
  8. Palpable lumps in the armpit or around the neck

The following are steps that can be used to perform SADARI (Breast Self Check) as an early detection of breast cancer:

  1. Observe the Breast Carefully in Front of a Mirror
  2. Observe the breast with your arm straight down. Note any lumps, changes in shape, color, or size. The difference in size between the right and left breast is normal.
  3. Tense the Chest Muscles by Raising the Hands
  4. Lift both arms up, place them behind your head, and press forward. Also, press your hands firmly against your hips and move your elbows forward. This helps tense the chest muscles to make changes such as hollows or lumps more visible.
  5. Raise the Left Arm and Palpate the Left Breast
  6. Raise your left arm and palpate your left breast with the three fingertips of your right hand pressed together. Check with a circular motion, an up-and-down motion, or an outward motion towards the nipple. Repeat this on the right breast with the left hand.
  7. Gently Press the Area Around the Nipple
  8. Press lightly around the nipple, noting whether there is abnormal fluid such as white, yellowish, or mixed with blood.
  9. Do the Examination While Lying Down
  10. Lie down with your left hand under your head, placing a small pillow under your back. Palpate the entire left breast according to the method in step 3, and repeat for the right breast.
  11. Pay Special Attention to the Armpit
  12. Pay attention to the upper breast of the outer edge near the armpit crease, as tumors are often found in this area.

Also, it is important to know the boundaries of the breast so that the entire area is palpated systematically:

  • Upper border: 1-2 fingers below the collarbone
  • Lower border: The line of the lower circumference of the breast
  • Outer boundary: The center line of the armpit downwards
  • Innermost border: Midline of the chest
