Every day we drink water to keep our bodies healthy.
But, have you ever wondered how that water eventually turns into urine?
The kidneys play an important role in this process, and it all happens in three interesting stages.
Urine Formation Process
- Filtration This first stage occurs in the glomerulus, where the kidneys filter the blood to separate fluids and toxic substances that the body doesn't need. The result is the initial liquid called urine.
- Reabsorption The kidneys work smart by reabsorbing important substances such as glucose and amino acids so that they are not wasted.
- Urine Expulsion (Secretion) Waste substances such as ammonia, urea and salts are passed to the bladder through the ureters. When the bladder is full, the brain signals to release urine, and the sphincter muscles relax to facilitate this process.
Conclusion
The kidneys are tiny organs that do an amazing job of keeping the body in balance. Let's keep your kidneys healthy!
